Founders Tour of Trees with Buz Brenton!

Hello All!

Thought I'd put a post on this blog about an event that my mom and I went to this morning at the Brenton Arboretum! The event was callled "Founders Tour of Trees." Buz Brenton, the founder of Brenton Arboretum, gave a tour of a lot of the trees at the arboretum. There were about 19 people there and it was truly a lovely morning and I really enjoyed seeing Mr. Brenton's passion for nature and that he is willing to share it with all of us who visit the arboretum.

We started out by the main building and Mr. Brenton took us on a tour of most of the trees for about an hour and a half. We walked on a lot of the trails and he pointed out lots of trees and plants. Wow! He really knows a lot about the trees and I enjoyed learning from him. Some of the trees we saw were: Buckeye, Magnolia, Japanese Tree Lilac, Sweet Gum, Tulip Tree (largest deciduous tree in North America), Sycamores, Common Bald Cypress, Alder, Black Tupelo, Goldenrod, Ash, Shingle Oak, Silver Maple, Red Maple, Crabapple, Elms, Sassafrass, Chinese Pine, David Elm, Frontier Elm, Walnut, Kentucky Coffee Tree, White Pine, Red Pine, Scotch Pine, Frazier Fir, Wilson's Spruce, Colorado Blue Spruce, and a lot more!

Mr. Brenton also explained the history of the arboretum and what some of the future plans for it are. It was really neat learning from him. After the walk, we went up to the main building for fresh apple cider, real roasted chesnuts, and homemade cookies provided by Kay. Thanks, Kay! They tasted delicious!! (If you want to roast chesnuts, just poke the chesnut with a knife once and cook at 425 in the oven for 20 minutes.)

One of my favorite things he said was, "As you can tell, I sort of like trees." And he really shows his passion for trees! Thank you Mr. Brenton for this wonderful opportunity!
