The Hikers' Trek

Imagine...
At the Brenton Arboreatum, rain came down in torrents. The sky was gray and thick with clouds. Lightning flashed and thunder rolled in the distance. Dangerous animals stalked the woods. And in the middle of it all was a group of brave, courageous, adventurous hikers, led by Kay...
Well, it wasn't quite that dramatic. But it was raining lightly, the sky was filled with stratus clouds, and there were "dangerous" animals; frogs, toads, crickets, and spiders. A group of homeschoolers hiked in the prairie, searching out trees and their leaves. We saw many kinds of trees and Kay allowed us to pick the leaves. Some of them were compound, single, lobed, and serrated. At home, we pressed them and when they are all dry and completely flat we will laminate them to keep them preserved. We will also make leaf rubbings and maybe even use them on Thanksgiving cards.
