Metamorphosis is the word biologists use to describe sudden changes in an animals shape or form including changes in habitat or behavior. Dragonflies emerge from the water to fly, tadpoles breath air, and caterpillars become butterflies. It seems that the world is full of little miracles.
I use the word metamorphosis less scientifically. I think spring is in metamorphosis with plants sprouting, blooming and animals returning, nesting and being born at a fast pace. It is hard to believe that one month ago I was cautioning the nature club hikers to stay off the ice on the pond!
This Friday, we will meet at the Pavilion. I want to try a new listening game before we go for our metamorphosis hike.
